Asylum Cases: In Re: ——, R & S, (May 31, 2011)

In Re: ——, R & S, (Chicago Immigration Court, May 31, 2011). Legal challenge: Our clients, husband and wife, were arrested, paroled and released into the United States at the Canadian border; they asserted fear of returning to their home country. Action taken: Chicago Immigration Advocates filed applications for asylum, withholding of removal, and deferral of removal pursuant to the Convention Against Torture based upon their fear of returning home on the basis of prior religious persecution. Result: The Immigration Court found that our clients established that they were practicing a Christianity which would, in the future, be persecuted by the government in their country in the Middle East. The Immigration Court also found that our clients were previously persecuted due to their religious beliefs in their home country. Our clients remain in the United States to this day as asylees.
