Conviction with Removal Cases: In Re: ——, Carlos, (July 13, 2011)
In Re: ——, Carlos, (Chicago Immigration Court, July 13, 2011). Legal challenge: Our client was charged with removal for the commission of two crimes involving moral turpitude after his admission to the United States. Action Taken: Chicago Immigration Advocates filed a motion to terminate removal proceedings on the basis that his first conviction was not a crime involving moral turpitude and was also protected speech pursuant to the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Result: The Immigration Court agreed, found that our client’s first conviction was not a crime involving moral turpitude and terminated the removal case against our client. Our client remains in the United States to this day as a lawful permanent resident.
